Eid Al-Fitr in India to be Celebrated on Saturday: New Delhi, Jun 14: Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan, will be celebrated across the country on Saturday as the crescent moon was not sighted here on Thursday.

The announcement on the celebration of Eid in India was made by Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari.

Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari made the announcement tonight after a meeting of the moon-sighting committee here, a senior official at the city’s historic mosque said. “The moon was not sighted today. So, that means the Eid will be celebrated on Saturday in Delhi and several other parts of the country,”

Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramzan, symbolises peace and brotherhood.

The festival is marked with feasts and the faithful offers prayers at mosques and eidgahs to seek blessings of the divine.

People, especially children dress up in their traditional fineries to mark the festival that spreads the message of brotherhood and communal amity.

Eid ul-Fitr marks the end of holy month of Ramadan and the Muslims all over the world celebrate the religious day.

The religious Eid celebrates the conclusion of 29 or 30 days of fasting during the entire month of Ramzan. This year Eid-ul-Fitr falling on June 15th evening followed by June 16.

Eid-ul-Fitr falls on the first month of Shawwal. The date of the occasion varies according to the Islamic calendar based on the observation of new moon by local religious authorities.

On occasion, all Muslims wish by hugging each other and saying ‘Eid Mubarak’. The children of the house are treated by ‘Eidi’ which comprises of money or gifts.

The Eid prayer is performed in gathering in open areas like fields, community centers or at mosques.

The prayer comprises of two units of prayer along with six incantations.

The special Eid-al-Fitr delicacies are cooked at every Muslim household consisting of Biryani, Haleem, Nalli Nihari, Seviyan, Mutton Kaleji and different kinds of kebabs.

All the women dress up in shararas, or regular salwar kameez or Hijab and men prefer wearing kurta pyjama.
