Ramadan’s Lailat-ul-Qadr – The night of Power

Lailat-ul-Qadr – The night of Power

Lailat-ul-Qadr – The night of Power: In this night (27th of Ramadan), the Holy Quran was sent down from LOH-E-MEHFOOZ (the Preserved Tablet) to the earth.

Messenger of ALLAH (Blessings of Allah and peace be on him) told us to search for Shab-e-Qadr in the odd numbered nights, in the last ten days of Ramzan.

So, the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th or 29th night of Ramadan could be Shab-e-Qadr i.e., Lailat-ul-Qadr – The night of Power.

Hazrat Aisha Radiallah Anha stated that Rasool Allah peace be upon him said, “Look for Lailat-Ul-Qadr in the odd nights of the last ten days of Ramadhan.” (Bukhari)

Hazrat Aisha Radiallah Anha stated that as much Rasool Allah peace be upon him tried (Ibadat) in the last Ashra (ten days) of Ramadhan, did not try in any of the Ashra.” (Muslim)

Hazrat Aisha Radiallah Anha stated that I asked Rasool Allah peace be upon him, “If I find Lailatul Qadar then what should I do? HE peace be upon him said, recite this Dua.”ALLAH HUMMA INNAKA A’FUVUN TOHIB BUL A’FVA FA’AFU ‘ANNI” (Tirmidhi)

Physical touch Soothed her Pain and Deepened her Relationship

Physical touch Soothed her Pain and Deepened her Relationship

Physical touch Soothed her Pain and Deepened her Relationship. The simple and healing power of Holding hands with her boyfriend/husband doesn’t just bring them closer together, it’s also healing.
One night, a crippling migraine left she in severe pain. Not knowing what else to do, the As One Loves founder curled up next to her boyfriend/husband in bed.

She describes the pain as an “icepick in your head.’

How the simple act of holding hands brought this couple closer than ever

“All you want to do is sleep, but that’s the last thing you can do.”
“I was feeling terrible and I just could not sleep,” she says, “and all I needed to do was lie down next to him, and he held my hand, and I was out in a couple of minutes.”

Many people need and crave physical touch to alleviate not only physical discomfort but also emotional pain. But it doesn’t come natural to everyone, including her boyfriend/husband.

“But what’s so great about him is he’s so empathetic,” she says. “He will completely validate what I’m experiencing, and he’s learned over the years that physical touch is a major thing for me.”

She says her husband’s/boyfriend’s natural way of expressing love is by doing nice things for others, like cleaning up or buying gifts.

“He’s really not as touchy and feely as me, but I know that he knows that it works for me because he’s always holding my hand and everything even though he might not really want to,” she says.

when an emphatic partner holds your hand while you experience stress, your breathing and heart rate sync together, which can alleviate your anxiety.

It was incredible how simply holding hands with someone she loved soothed her pain.

“Just that tiny little connection can completely affect your mind and your well being.”

Physical touch Soothed her Pain and Deepened her Relationship

She says it’s important for her to understand how he likes to feel loved, as well. On some days, that could mean cleaning the kitchen, she says, or simply asking him how his day was.

“I would feel bad if it was all about me and my boyfriend/husband always has to be holding my hand and I never gave him what he needed.”

“So, I learned over the years what he needs when he’s upset and what makes him feel loved and what makes him feel appreciated.”

While it’s been a process, she says, he has learned to know when she needs affection, too.

“He immediately goes to hold my hand or rub my back or something, and just that physical touch, I don’t know, it creates this connection and immediately calms me down no matter what I’m feeling at the time.”

For the less touchy partner, knowing when to be affectionate can be a learning process. You shouldn’t be shy about asking for affection, she says. Oftentimes, she says, she will simply ask her boyfriend/husband to cuddle with her.

“My boyfriend/husband … he wouldn’t know how to deal with this so I have to be open with him in telling him what I need and he has to be open with me in listening to what I need, and in turn telling me what he needs in life.”

How to invest when you don’t have much to invest

How to invest when you don’t have much to invest

The most important rule of investing isconsistency. Putting aside money for your financial goals every month is anabsolute must. How much you end up with does depend on how much you invest, butyou also need to keep in mind that longer tenures of investment can giveamazing results.

Let us take an example of Rs 1,000 beinginvested every month in any investment avenue that generates a modest return of12% per annum over a 30-year period. The investor will end up with around Rs 35lakh at the end of 30 years. This is much higher than the invested amount of Rs3.6 lakh. And 12% is a very achievable return.

In contrast, if you invest this amount inlump sum in a year, you will only end up with Rs 4.032 lakh with a 12% return.

This goes to show that investing in smallamounts—even if it amounts next to nothing—is any day better than investing inlump sum. The conclusion: invest even when you don’t have much to invest.

Before you start investing, there are twothings that you absolutely need to have in place:

1. Emergency fund:This should ideally be around 3 – 6 months’ worth of your monthly expenses. This amount should be invested in secure and liquid investment options like liquidor ultra-short term debt funds or even a bank deposit to ensure that theprinciple amount is available in case of any emergency. The idea is to ensurethe money is protected, but also easily available.

2. Pay off expensive debt: Ifyou have any debt, repaying that before you start investing is very important. Otherwise, you will only end up paying more. This will nullify any profit you couldpossible earn from your investments.

After you have these two parameters in place,it’s time to start investing.

There are various investment avenues for thesmall investor and the amounts that can be invested every month can be aslittle as Rs 500 a month. You do not need to put aside thousands of rupees whenyou start. Start small, but be consistent with your investment. Let us seewhere you can put your money and what are the pros and cons of each investment:

1. Systematic Investment Plan(SIP): A mutual fund company offers SIP where youmake a small investment every month. It is the perfect tool to create wealthover a period of time. Investing in SIPs over a longer duration ensures thatyou enjoy lower cost and also benefit from the power of compounding—the abilityto earn a higher returns by earning an interest on the previous interestpayments. Depending on your risk appetite, the SIP can be chosen to invest in differentkind of funds like equity, debt or balanced. This allows your to tailor yourinvestments as per your risk and return requirements. SIPs can also be done intax-savings schemes to get the double advantage of equity exposure with taxsavings. Such schemes have a lock in period of three years. One thing you needto keep in mind is that there are no penalties for missing an SIP paymentunlike a loan EMI. So even if you miss one payment your investment is safe andyou can continue to invest further in later months.

2. Systematic Equity Plan(SEP): An SEP is similar to an SIP in a lot of ways.In an SIP, the investor buys units in a mutual fund. In an SEP, the investoreither buys a certain number of shares or buys the number of shares availablein a certain amount of money. The investment is made only in shares chosen bythe investor. For example, you may choose to buy 10 shares of ABC Company or sharesworth Rs 5,000 of ABC Company. The choice of either fixing the number of sharesor the amount of money invested is left to the investor. Almostall brokers offer SEP investment. The benefit of an SEP is the averaging ofcost over time. Since the prices of stocks keep varying on a day to day basis,an SEP allows the investor to buy a particular stock at different prices. SEPinvestment does not have any lock-in period either. So the investor is free to selloff the shares and liquidate the investment at any time.

3. Short Term Debt Funds:When you know that you need a certain sum of money at a fixed date in thefuture, but do not want to keep the money idle for that duration, the bestoption is to invest in a short-term debt fund. The amount you invested isprotected in this fund as the investment is made in debt instruments likegovernment bonds only. The fund often gives higher returns than bank fixeddeposits. Moreover, you can withdraw the money at any time unlike FDs. But theinvestor needs to keep in mind the exit load levied by the fund, which canrange from 0.5% to 2%. This should not eat away the extra interest earned.

4. Liquid Funds:These are mutual funds that invest in money-market instruments like certificateof deposits, treasury bills, commercial papers and term deposits. These aresafe, short-term investment instruments. These mutual funds have no lock-inperiods or entry and exit load. The withdrawals for the fund are processedwithin 24 hours on working days. This makes liquid fund a very good investmentoption for anyone looking to park their money for a limited amount of time.

No matter how little you put aside, everyonecan invest for a better financial future. Having the discipline to do so is themost important aspect.

Real estate agents confuse home-buyers

Real estate agents confuse home-buyers

Real estate prices have fallen by almost 20% in many parts of the country: so why do agents have us believe otherwise?

One of the bigger problems with Indian real estate is that there is almost no independent data available for consumers to trust.

For instance, you may want to buy a home in a particular locality, how do you find out what the going price is?
Till very recently you would have had to call up a relative who has some idea of these things. Or you would call up a real estate broker.

The real estate broker does not always have the best interest of the buyer on his mind simply because for him it is a one-time transaction.  He is unlikely to be dealing with the buyer ever again.

With the advent of websites one can get some idea of what the price scene is in a particular locality.
The point being that the insiders who are a part of the real estate sector in India have no incentive in making things easy for the end consumer.

And on most occasions they are bound to mislead.
Take the case of real estate consultants who are the major source of data when it comes to the real estate sector in India.

Here is one instance where an attempt has been made to mislead prospective buyers. As Ashwinder Raj Singh, CEO, Residential Services of JLL India, points out in a June 2015 column in The Indian Express: “Rental yields vary across the globe, but an average of 2 per cent of rental yield is considered a good deal for residential properties in India.”
Rental yield is essentially the annual rent that can be earned by renting out a home divided by its market price.

Singh goes on to write: “In India, the cities which currently offer a higher rental yield are Mumbai, Pune, NCR-Delhi, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad. All these cities offer a rental yield of 2 per cent and above, and you can be assured that the average is not going down anytime soon. Investing in these cities will offer you the maximum returns on investment in properties bought for generating rental income.”
What is Singh saying here? You can hope to earn a return of 2% or a little more, by renting out a home, almost all across metropolitan India.

The question is why would anyone in their right mind invest when the prospective return is 2%? That Singh does not tell us.

And this when most savings bank accounts pay an assured return of 4%. There are banks that even pay 7% interest on their savings bank accounts.
Further, earning a return by depositing money in a savings bank account is a very easy way of making money in comparison to earning rent by buying a home.

Real estate investment comes with its share of hassles. And earning a 2% return for those troubles is simply not go enough.
Singh of JLL India then goes on to say that the rental yield of 2% is not going to go down any time soon. Well, hasn’t it gone down enough already?
The second question is why have real estate consultants now started recommending real estate as a mode of earning a rental income?

As anyone who has ever invested in real estate will tell you, investors buy real estate in the hope of making capital gains. Very few investors buy real estate in the hope of earning a rental income. There are easier ways of earning a regular income than through renting out real estate.
The problem is that real estate prices have not gone anywhere in the recent past. As Atul Tiwari and Rishi Iyer of Citi Research point out: “Different data points continue to suggest broad-based deceleration in residential prices across India. Residential prices grew just ~0.5% year on year as on March 31, 2015.”
The Citi analysts have used data from Prop Equity. They further point out that prices had been rising at double-digit rates before this.
Data from Liases Foras, a real estate research and rating company, shows a similar trend. The average price in six cities (Mumbai Metropolitan Region, National Capital Region, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru and Pune) went up by around 1%, for a one-year period ending on March 31, 2015.
So the insiders are telling us that the real estate prices have stayed almost flat over the last one year. And this explains why Singh of JLL India had to write a column pitching rental income of 2% that can be earned from investing in real estate.
In fact, there is enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that prices have fallen by almost 20% in many parts of the country. Given that there is no neutral agency putting this data together, there is no way of knowing how bad the scene is at the aggregated level.

My guess is that it is much worse than what the real estate consultants are telling us.
All the price and sales data that is currently available comes from real estate consultants. And they have an incentive in the real estate prices continuing to go up. Their incomes depend on it.
Hence, there is a clear need for an independent agency which collates real estate data in the country. This will be a huge help to genuine real estate buyers who want to buy a home to live in.

Gadget Review: iBall Slide i701 – This Windows tablet is almost a hit

Gadget Review: iBall Slide i701 – This Windows tablet is almost a hit

In the past few weeks, we have been repeatedly speaking about budget computers — from the Rs 13K Chromebooks to the Linux-based Rs 5K laptop by IIT Bombay. A recent addition to this line-up is the ultra-portable iBall Slide i701, a 7-inch Windows tablet that costs just Rs 5K. Without doubt, the i701 has set a new milestone in budget computing, but it has also thrown up a few questions on the rigidity of Windows 8. Let’s take a look.

Design: There’s nothing extraordinary about the way the iBall Slide i701 looks, but it gets a silicon matte finish in the back, thus offering a good grip. The edges are sleek, and the corners get a round touch. Overall, the device makes optimum usage of space, and looks like a cute 7-inch device.
Rating: 7/10

Display: The fact that iBall has managed to put a 7-inch IPS touch display in a device that costs Rs 5K is a feat in itself. But while we have to commend the makers for that, we can’t help but notice the compromises made in the process, and how they affect our experience. For example, the viewing angles have been compromised heavily. So in the same angle where you can see the top part of the screen clearly, the bottom part appears darker. It causes a lot of discomfort, most noticeably, while using the touch keyboard. There’s an oddity in the contrast levels (caused by low-viewing angle), which make certain keys shine brighter and hence, hurt the eyes. The touch is good, but limited to five touch points. Users would find the text size of menu and apps too small for comfort. Though, the device supports 1280×768, we found 1024×600 to be the optimal resolution for usage. Unfortunately, most apps don’t work at this low resolution.
Rating: 4/10

Connectivity: The surprise elements with the iBall i701 don’t end with the price. The device supports USB on the go, 3.5 mm aux-in, and mini HDMI. As for wireless connectivity, it comes with Bluetooth and wi-fi b/g/n. As for accessories, the device comes with three multi-coloured hard plastic back covers.
Rating: 10/10

Battery: The i701 gets enough juice from the 3,200mAh battery to last nearly four hours. Though, this is insufficient for a tablet, with this price tag, we shouldn’t be asking for more.
Rating: 7/10

Camera: There are two cameras — a 2MP rear camera with flash and a VGA camera in the front. Both offer average-quality pictures and video.
Rating: 6/10

User interface & OS: The device runs on 32-bit Windows 8.1 single language with Bing with a free upgrade to Windows 10, when it’s made available. The OS gives the i701 an edge over other tablets simply because of the fact that you can run most of your Windows desktop apps in the i701. However, the small screen size and lack of support in Windows 8.1 OS and apps for lower display configurations such as 1024×600, makes working in the device quite challenging. Often, the text gets difficult to read. We advise our users to install most apps from the Windows store. This will make it easier to negotiate the tiny controls in desktop apps.
Rating: 5/10

Hardware & Performance: Despite the low price, iBall has managed to squeeze in Intel Atom CPU Z3735G clocked at 1.33 GHz with Intel HD Graphics. Even though, the built-in RAM is 1GB, the processor manages to pull of most of your computing tasks, as well as support most low-end games. Of the 1GB RAM, it gets 32MB as dedicated video memory, the rest is used as graphic and system memory. At this price, the i701 is amazing, as we had no issues in multi-tab browsing either. The device comes with 16Gb built-in storage, but out of that, just 2.5GB is available for users. However, one can expand it up to 32GB using the microSD card slot.
Rating: 10/10

Display: 7-inch IPS touch screen 1280×768
Processor: 1.3 GHz Intel Atom Z3735G
Memory: 1GB RAM, 16GB (internal), up to 32GB (microSD Card)
Camera: 2MP (rear), VGA (front)
Connectivity: Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, mini HDMI, USB OTG
OS: Windows 8.1 (free upgrde to Windows 10)
Price: Rs 4,999

Available at: All major retail stores

Overall rating
7.0 / 10
The guide VERDICT Overall, at R5K, the iBall manages to offer more features than one could ask for. The CPU performance is satisfactory in both video playback as well as in gaming. However, the restricted viewing angles in the display leave you disappointed. We also, believe that Microsoft should offer an optimised version of the Windows 8.1 OS to work efficiently in devices with smaller displays such as the i701.  Still, we give iBall full marks, especially for the effort and because its heart is in the right place, when it comes to making low-cost computing a reality in India.

How To Purify Lungs

How To Purify Your Lungs In 72 Hours

Many people that have never smoked a cigarette in their life still have lung problems, while others have been smoking for 40 years and their lungs are perfectly fine. In the end, it all comes down to the person’s organism. Today, we’re giving you a few tips on how to purify your lungs in just 72 hours.

First things first, get rid of all of the dairy products from your diet. This is because, your body has to get rid of the diary products’ toxins.
How To Purify Lungs
In the first day, drink a cup of herb tea before bedtime. It will release all of the toxins that cause constipation in the intestine. But, please take note, during the purification, you must not overload your lungs or any other part of the body with difficult work.
Squeeze 2 lemons in 300 ml of water, and drink them before breakfast.
Consume 300 ml of grapefruit juice. If you do not like the taste, feel free to replace it with pineapple juice. Both of these juices contain natural antioxidants that improve the breathing systems.
Drink 300 ml of carrot juice between breakfast and lunch. This juice will help you alkalize your blood during the 72 hour cleansing.
During lunch time drink 400 ml of juice rich in potassium. Potassium acts as a great cleansing tonic. Drink 400 ml of cranberry juice before going to bed, which will help you in the fight against bacteria that can cause infections in the lungs.
Body care and exercises
Many toxins can be lost through a daily 20-minute hot bath.
In a bowl of hot water put 5 to 10 drops of eucalyptus. Place your head over the bowl and cover yourself with a towel. Inhale the steam until the water cools off.

Successful People Do Things Differently

Successful People Do Things Differently

There’s probably more written about achieving success than anything else these days. Considering how subjective and amorphous the concept is, that surprises me. Not only does success mean different things to different people, it even means different things at different times in your career.

Early on, you’re probably motivated by relatively short-term endeavors like being recognized as a rising star in your field, developing a hot product, or making enough money to enjoy life. But later in life, you may come to define success very differently – as financial security for you and your family and knowing that your life’s work has made a real difference.

Regardless of who you are, what you do for a living, where you are in your journey, or what your specific goals happen to be at any point in time, success is always about one thing: setting aggressive goals and accomplishing them. That’s the one common denominator. Successful people are those who set their sites pretty high and accomplish what they set out to do.

Over the decades I’ve worked with hundreds of executives and business leaders that meet that description. And I can tell you with absolute certainty that they have absolutely nothing in common that sets them apart from others except for how they go about accomplishing their extraordinary goals.

They make a real difference.

The problem with today’s “change the world” entrepreneurial meme is that it’s grandiose and, ironically, a sort of narrow viewpoint of what it means to make a real difference. The vast majority of successful people I’ve known are relatively unknown and so are their accomplishments – except to their customers, employees, investors, and families.

They don’t start conversations; they make things happen.

Yes, I have seen a number of relatively famous people talk about “starting a conversation.” All I can say is, that’s not what made them successful in the first place. To me, that phrase is synonymous with an unwillingness to be decisive, drive a stake into the ground, and commit to making things happen. Starting conversations will not make you successful. Making things happen will.

They’re never satisfied with themselves.

When it comes to their work, highly accomplished people are never satisfied with their own performance. They’re always hungry. They always expect more of themselves. And that’s usually a self-fulfilling prophecy.
They stick with it.

They take their goals, priorities, and commitments very seriously. Once they’ve figured out what they want to accomplish, they’re disciplined about getting it done and not letting obstacles stand in their way. They don’t always succeed – nobody does – but they won’t let that stop them from trying again and again until they do.

They don’t follow others.

What distinguishes their behavior from the pack is that they’re leaders of the pack. They don’t care how things are done and they have no patience for those who tell them how things should be done. They do things their way. The main thing they do differently is that they do things differently.

They don’t balk at making hard choices.

You really can’t achieve great things without getting your hands dirty. What I mean by that is there will always be challenges and obstacles that require you to make tough decisions and painful tradeoffs. If you’re squeamish about that, you’re going to have a hard time making it in the rough-and-tumble business world.

When they see an opportunity, they act.

When presented with an opportunity, the vast majority of people will come up with all sorts of excuses not to act on it. I don’t know why that is, but I see it every day. That’s why they never accomplish anything extraordinary. If you want to be successful, you have to create and act on opportunities.

They trust their gut and it’s a tough judge.

Most people are easily influenced. I suppose that’s always been the case but the lousy quality of user-generated content seems to have taken gullibility to a whole new level. When it comes to making important business, people, and life decisions, always trust your gut, not what someone else says.

They take their work seriously, not themselves.

Granted, I have known quite a few executives with bigger egos and thinner skin than they should have. But they were not nearly as successful as those who realize they’re made of flesh and blood, like everyone else, and that business is about business, not them. People pay for your work, not you.

They focus on what matters.

Successful people don’t just see the big picture; they’re usually the ones that come up with it in the first place. Since it’s their vision, that’s what captures their attention, that’s what matters to them, and that’s what they focus on. That’s why they’re not easily distracted by what doesn’t matter – all the nonsense most people spend much of their time doing, these days.

The great irony of today’s obsession with success is that it really has nothing to do with characteristics, habits, routines, or any of the other popular notions we always read about. It’s actually quite personal. If you want to be successful, just figure out what matters to you – what you want to accomplish more than anything – and do whatever it takes to make it happen. And forget about what everyone else says. That’s really all there is to it.
