KTR introducing electric vehicles in Telangana. Hyderabad: State government will come up with an electric vehicles policy shortly to promote environment-friendly transportation and reduce pollution, said Industries Minister KT Rama Rao.

Flagging off 20 electric vehicles to be used by municipal corporation officials on hire basis here on Friday, he said, this fleet would be used by officials in the municipalities and urban local bodies.

To promote the usage of electric vehicles, the government would come up with electric vehicle policy that would facilitate manufacturers establish their units in the State and generate more employment, the Minister said.

State government was focussed on protecting environment from pollution and improving green cover and efforts were being made to make Hyderabad single-use plastic free city by the year 2022, he said.

Plans were also afoot to introduce 500 electric city buses in the first phase and replace the rest of the fleet with in a phased manner, he said adding that Metro services would be launched on Ameerpet-LB Nagar route by July end this year.
